Having a lively membership forum for membership sites, with active postings and discussions on a daily basis, will keep members engaged and interested. It’s true that interested and engaged members will be more likely to gain from their membership; and, therefore, will be more likely to remain members and keep paying for their membership.

So, how do you keep your membership forum lively? Encourage your members to regularly offer their own ideas—this means their ideas for success, the problems they’ve run into, any anecdotes from their customers or business contacts, their favorite links and blog sites, and every tip and trick they may have picked up along the line. You will find that there are a handful of members that will really keep this going for you, and you will have to put in very little work or effort to make it a lively discussion.

There are strategies you can use to increase interest in your membership forum. Include a regular section with a link in your newsletter that offers a teaser about your membership forum; this will draw more members to check it out. Post one of the threads right in your online newsletter, and watch how many of your members will click through to see what it’s all about.

When you find that things seem to die down a bit, you can post your own questions or comments to get it going again. To get the most interest, you will want to be sure to finish your post with a question, such as, “What’s your favorite way to _______?” You’ll see that most people just can’t wait to offer their own opinion or solution to the situation. Who doesn’t love to be asked their opinion?

Remember, keeping your members engaged is critical to keeping them as members. The more participation that you can draw from the members, the more active the members are; and, this means there are more members that you will keep for a long time. And, that means more money for you from your membership website…..which is the whole point!
