Social networking sites can be a big part of your money making strategy for your website. Social networking sites give people something to talk about, and who doesn’t want something to talk about? The viral marketing that results from people visiting your site and talking about it in other blogs and forums will direct more traffic to your site. More traffic translates directly into more money in your pocket.

The choices of social networking sites are nearly endless at this point. There are thousands, all over the Internet. It used to be just MySpace, Facebook, and Digg; now you have Twitter.com, ning.com, Flickr.com, Tribe.com, and so many more. The influence of other popular sites, such as Wikipedia and YouTube cannot be denied, either.

Get your site started, and use trackbacks for helping other blogs to link to your site. The more links you have, the more people will visit your site.

So, what are they going to talk about? Get your members active and interested. Ask them to post on their favorite links and blogs, and, by driving other traffic to those blogs, getting people to post there, more links and trackbacks are available. It’s a social network, remember? All of these sites are really staying alive by people visiting them, talking about them, linking to them, and revisiting them.

Ask your members to post on their ideas, and this will create topics. People will respond, everyone wants to be heard. One thing usually leads to another, and hopefully (well, the idea is….) new ideas will be generated, new questions will be asked, new sites will be mentioned, and so on. This is a process that can just keep on growing, often with little effort from you, once you get it started.

Get yourself and your website noticed. Get your social networking going, with the sites mentioned above or pick others from the thousands available on the Internet. The more “friends” you have on the Internet, the more traffic you’ll have to your site.

Which sites have you found to be the most effective for social networking?
